AmaZulu FC co-coach Arthur Zwane believes his team will need to dig deep to get a win over Chippa United, when the two sides meet in a Betway Premiership clash at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Tuesday. AmaZulu have endured a difficult start to the 2024/25 season, losing all four league matches and getting knocked out in round one of the Carling Knockout. This horrific run has left them languishing at the bottom of the table without any points after four matches.

The first three losses of the season against Polokwane City, Kaizer Chiefs and Marumo Gallants led to the sacking of Spanish coach Pablo Franco Martin at the end of September. The duo of Arthur Zwane and Vusumuzi Vilakazi was then roped in to steady the ship in a co-coaching set up, however, their first two matches yielded defeats against Stellenbosch FC in the Carling Knockout and Orlando Pirates in the league.

Usuthu will face a Chippa United side that has enjoyed a brilliant start to the campaign, winning three of their six league matches, with a single draw and two defeats. The positive start to the season has elevated Kwanele Kopo’s men up to third on the Betway Premiership standings. Speaking to the AmaZulu media team, Zwane believes Usuthu will have to dig deep to get a result against an aggressive and well organised Chippa United team.

“Going into this game, we are trying to lift the morale, we are trying to motivate the guys. We watched Chippa playing, very aggressive team a very good team. Coach Kopo and Thabo September are doing a great job so it’s not going to be a walk in the park, you know we gonna have to dig deep in order for us to grind the result as we always say. What is important for us right now is to win this game, they are coming to us and we are gonna have to get a better approach as to how we are going to exploit the space, and also take our chances and defend better. I think at Orlando Pirates we were left exposed in both wing-backs and right backs, they had so much space. I think we at some point we defended well, so we can take all the positives, we defended very well, covered each other well and the rest defence was better organised. We can take all those positives and work on them, so we can be consistent when it comes to our performance,” said Zwane.
