1173 Illegal Firearms Seized by SAPS

National Police commissioner Fannie Masemola says last month alone, 1173 illegal firearms and 7738 rounds of live ammunition were confiscated countrywide.

1035 of these firearms were confiscated in Gauteng alone.

Some of these firearms, ammunition and dangerous weapons were seized during roadblocks, as well as stolen vehicles and drugs.

Masemola says this reflects their determination as management of the police to intensify their efforts, dealing decisively with the proliferation of illegal firearms.
