63 Officials Involved in COVID-19 Tender Corruption

Special Investigating Unit (SIU) Head, Andy Mothibi,  says billions of rands in PPE tenders were awarded Irregularly to several businesses whose top executives have links to prominent officials in several departments.

In a virtual address to parliament, Mothibi says these contracts were worth R14.3 billion.

He says at least 63 government officials have been handed over for prosecution, adding that over 80 companies will be blacklisted due to their corrupt conduct in procuring COVID-19 related tenders.

Mothibi says they are prioritising these investigations as many lives were put at risk because of greed.
