70% of Land Still Privately Owned

Public Works and Infrastructure Minister Patricia de Lille says two land audits conducted by government to determine the demographics of land ownership, show differing results.

De Lille has been addressing the Ad hoc Committee on legislation amending Section 25 of the Constitution in order to allow for the expropriation of land without compensation.

She has defended the repeal of the Expropriation Act.

De Lille says the first audit was to determine the amount of land owned privately or by the state, which found that at least 70% of the land in SA is in private hands.
