Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan has announced a new equity partner for South African Airways.

Gordhan has been virtually briefing media on SAA, where he revealed that the Department of Public Enterprises will now hold 49%, while Takatso Consortium own 51% of the airline.

Consortium comprises Harith General Partners and Aviation Group Global Aviation.

The state airline was placed under business rescue about two years ago following management and financial challenges.

Gordhan says the airline will not rely on government funding to operate.
