A Tattoo Palour with a Twist
Written by Mfundo on 11 February, 2021
A tattoo parlour in the heart of Soweto is turning scars from self-harm victims into works of tattoo art.
Soweto Ink was the brainchild of high school friends, Sibusiso Dlamini and Ndumiso Ramate and has grown to be one of a few successful black-owned tattoo parlours.
Co-founder of the parlor, Ndumiso Ramate says the idea to turn self-harm scars into tattoos came when the team noticed how many people not only suffered from mental health issues but were also harming themselves because of it.
Ramate says they receive a lot of requests for young people in the township who want to use their service.
