Police Minister Bheki Cele says it is shocking that KwaZulu-Natal has recorded 229 incidents of multiple murders,  from the first of April last year to the 23rd of this month.

Cele has been addressing media in Durban, on police investigations into multiple murders in this province.

He says most of these murders occurred in the eThekwini municipality, followed by uMgungundlovu municipality.

Meanwhile, Cele says the police have made a break through  in arresting suspects for the murder of 14 people, who were killed brutally in two separate incidents recently.

Eight of these people were gunned down by unknown assailants in Richmond, in the midlands, while six were killed at iNanda, north of Durban.

He says 7 suspects between the ages of 21 and 43 have been arrested with regards to 8 murders that occurred in the area.

The minister adds that 4 other suspects have been arrested with regards to a drive by shooting that took place in KwaMakhutha, south of Durban.

Cele further says one suspect has been arrested in connection with the recent iNanda shooting that claimed 6 lives.
