The All Truck Drivers Forum and Allied South Africa says foreign nationals should not be hired to drive trucks in the country.

There has been a spate of violence on trucks where at least 29 foreign drivers were targeted in the past week, allegedly in protest to their employment in the sector.

The forum says they are tired of the empty promises made by the government regarding the foreign drivers.

A video making rounds on social media, calls for a nationwide shutdown and also raises several demands. One of the demands is that all foreign national truck drivers be removed from the freight industry with immediate effect.

All Truck Drivers Forum and Allied SA Secretary-General Sifiso Nyathi says driving trucks is not a skill shortage in this country.
