ActionSA has expressed concern over the lack of decisive action against Justice Minister Thembi Simelane, calling on President Cyril Ramaphosa to address allegations related to a loan Simelane received from Gundo Wealth Solutions in 2016.
The party says it wrote to President Ramaphosa over 70 days ago, urging immediate steps to address the claims surrounding the minister. The allegations stem from a loan Simelane received while serving as Polokwane mayor.
Gundo Wealth Solutions, the company that provided the loan, has been implicated as a third-party broker involved in questionable dealings with VBS Mutual Bank, a financial institution mired in controversy and corruption scandals.
ActionSA’s Athol Trollip has called on President Ramaphosa to make a public decision regarding Simelane’s position. Trollip insists that immediate action is essential to uphold accountability and transparency within the government.
“Why would Ramaphosa do nothing about this minister when it appears that he was aware of it in 2021? He has asked for time and space, but we believe that he has had enough time and space to deal with this matter. All he needs to do is make a decision, put South Africa and the Department of Justice first, and suspend the minister if he won’t fire her,” says Athol Trollip.
