Political Analyst Professor Bheki Mngomezulu says he wouldn’t be surprised if CAF President Patrice Motsepe challenged for the ANC leadership position after 2024.

An ANC Limpopo branch and a community organisation, Unity 22 Forum want Motsepe to battle out for the position of ANC president with his brother-in-law, President Cyril Ramaphosa, at the party’s 55th elective conference in December.

The ANC took a beating in the November local government elections, securing just 47.9% of the votes, pushing it into opposition benches in some municipalities.

The groups say many people are not happy with the current leadership.

The ANC constitution adopted by the 54th national conference at Nasrec stipulates that a person must have been an ANC member in good standing for at least 10 years before they can be nominated for election to the national executive committee.

In KZN, reports have surfaced alleging that businessman and also Amazulu FC boss, Sandile Zungu, will challenge for the ANC provincial chairperson position.

Mngomezulu elaborates.
