Police in KwaZulu-Natal have confirmed that they are following up on several leads into the murder and attempted murder of tavern patrons in Sweetwaters in Pietermaritzburg.
4 people were killed, while 8 others were injured on Saturday evening, when unknown gunmen opened fire at people in a tavern.
Provincial Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi says such acts of violence cannot be allowed to grow and spread to other townships.
Mkhwanazi has blamed easy access to firearms for the increasing crime.
