Former Defence Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula says soldiers are not trained to stop crime or negotiate with civilians.

Mapisa-Nqakula has given her version of what transpired when KZN and Gauteng descended into chaos in that one fateful week in July this year, looting, burning factories and warehouses and destroying other infrastructure.

This resulted in the death of over 300 people in both provinces.

Mapisa-Nqakula has told the Human Rights Commission that members of the SANDF cannot be used as law enforcement because no government should deploy its army on its own people and country.
