Analyst: Ramaphosa has lost control of corruption in the country

Political analyst Ralph Mathekga says South Africa is currently facing two major challenges, the coronavirus pandemic and the increase in widespread corruption.

The Special Investigative Unit, which is an independent statutory body accountable to Parliament and the President, is investigating over 100 alleged irregular Covid-19 contracts.

The probe covers the entire 500-billion-rand stimulus package that makes up the country’s emergency funding.

Despite president, Cyril Ramaphosa, calling corruption during a national disaster a heinous type of crime, government has been strongly criticised by the manner in which it is handling the matter.

ANC spokesperson, Pule Mabe, says they take corruption seriously:
