ANC NEC Meeting Under the Spotlight

Political analyst Bheki Mngomezulu says its imperative for the ANC National Executive Committee to discuss the party’s step aside 2017 elective conference resolution.

The NEC enters its first day of a three-day meeting and the issue of leaders facing charges is expected to be high on the agenda.

The ANC earlier this year adopted a new step-aside stance on members accused of and charged with serious crimes, where these members would be expected to voluntarily step down from any positions of power while their legal matters are dealt with.

The policy however, has not worked out the way the party had hoped, with those accused of or even charged with criminal conduct refusing to leave.

This includes the party’s secretary-general Ace Magashule, who was officially charged with corruption, fraud and money-laundering last month.

Mngomezulu says NEC members must put aside their factions and address this matter.
