Umkhonto Wesizwe Military Veterans Association Spokesperson, Carl Neihaus, has been suspended following a personal attack on the ANC Deputy Secretary General, Jessie Duarte.
Neihaus received a letter from the ANC Secretary General, Ace Magashule, detailing his misconduct as he is employed by this office, to give support to the work of the SG.
He had released a public statement on social media detailing his journey in fighting COVID-19 when he was still in hospital, stating that had he went public with his illness, some people would have celebrated and even wanted him dead.
The statement continues to detail that he was deliberately targeted by a well coordinated aggressive propaganda smear campaign by “White Monopoly Capital” media,
“I am saddened that even the ANC Deputy SG , Comrade Jessie Duarte, saw it fit to attack me, and undermine my long history as a 42 year veteran of the ANC in good standing. This she did knowing that when she was doing so, I was gravely ill. It was unnecessary and callous,” states Neihaus.
In the letter Magashule says this attack to another member is a serious violation of the party’s Personnel Policy Manual .
“ANC staff members are expected to abide by the discipline of the organisation, and personal attacks by a member of staff on elected leadership- without attempting to address the matter internally- is unprofessional, is not tolerated and is in violation of the manual,” states Magashule.
Magashule concluded to express his disappointment regarding how they found out that he, Neihaus, had been battling with COVID-19, saying it’s rather unfortunate that the first they hear about this, is in a media statement.
