ANC Deputy Secretary General Jessie Duarte says political and community leaders need to make sure that they continue with their efforts to promote peace and social cohesion in Phoenix, north of Durban.
She has been speaking to the media during the party’s election campaign trail in that area.
Duarte’s visit is in response to opposition party DA’s election posters which reads “The ANC called you racists, the DA calls you heroes”. These posters have since sparked public outrage and the party has issued a statement confirming that they will be taking them down.
She says the province has a long history of violence and dialogues need to be held to bring peace.

#ANCinPhoenix “It was highly disappointing for the African National Congress to see the posters that have once again divided society; for us it is nothing new. Every election the DA brings out their colonial mentality of divide & rule as they do in the Western Cape” @ANCDSGDuarte pic.twitter.com/2Tqp8VgF7a
