The South African Health Products Authority (SAHPRA) has approved the booster dose of the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine for individuals aged 18 years and older.
The booster shots will be administered 6 months after the second Pfizer vaccine shot, as well as to citizens over the age of 12 whose immune may be compromised, at 28 days after the second Pfizer dose.
Acting Executive Director of the National Institute of Communicable Diseases, Professor Adrian Puren, says previously vaccinated individuals may not be fully protected from the Omicron variant.
However, the booster shot will help in boosting their immune system to combat Omicron.
