Health Minister Joe Phaahla says South Africa has not been advised on the dropping of the COVId-19 mask regulation.

Phaahla has been briefing media on the country’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

South Africa has recorded 3,266 new COVID-19 infections in the last 24 hours. Gauteng is leading in terms of new infections with 1,005 cases, followed by the Western Cape and KZN.

Phaahla says COVID 19 is far from being wiped out as they continue to see more daily infections.

The positivity rate stands at 10.6%. 12 people have died, taking the death toll to 95 545.

Phahla says they are optimistic that when people settle down as a result of the school holidays there will be stability and a reduction in infections.
