Proteas Captain Temba Bavuma says it’s important to bring new faces into the national team, especially since they are approaching the 50 overs World Cup later this year.

The Proteas coaching staff named 4 uncapped players for the three-match ODI series against West Indies, with faster bowler Gerald Coetzee, Batters Tony De Zorzi and Tristan Stubbs all earning their maiden call ups, while Ryan Rickelton has been recalled to the side.

South Africa will play their first two ODI matches without some of their regular players in the squad. Pacemen Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortjte will be rested for the first two matches, while spinner Keshav Maharaj will miss out completely after picking up an injury in the final Test match against the same opponents.

Bavuma says it is a big year as far as 50 overs Cricket is concerned with the World Cup approaching, and getting new faces in the team will help to build much needed depth.
