The Black Lawyers Association is not pleased with the recommendations of the Judicial Service Commission on the suspension of Western Cape Judge President John Hlophe.

The association says it is not advisable for president Cyril Ramaphosa to suspend a judge who is a subject of an impeachment process.

The JSC has resolved to recommend to President Cyril Ramaphosa that he suspend Judge President John Hlophe, pending a vote by the National Assembly on whether he should be impeached.

Hlophe was found guilty of alleged gross misconduct for attempting to sway two Constitutional Court justices to rule in favour of then-ANC president Jacob Zuma in 2008.

Meanwhile, BLA’s Bayethe Maswazi has described the recommendation as irrational.
