Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande says NSFAS has managed to identify funding for meals and personal expenses for students who require it to complete their academic year.
Nzimande has been briefing media in Pretoria, on further measures that will be implemented by the sector to curb the spread of COVID-19.
The academic year has been disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic and the nationwide lockdown.
Nzimande says Universities will have to work with NSFAS to ensure the funds are expeditiously processed.
He adds that universities should assist students in negotiating with private accommodation providers on the additional accommodation fee.
The Government Gazette states that the cost for University-owned and private accommodation will remain the same for the rest of the year regardless of its length, capped to the end of March 2021.
