Budget speech: Economists give out their predictions ahead of Mboweni’s speech

Economist, Dante Mashile, says Finance Minister, Tito Mbowen’s, national budget speech should focus on creating revenue capacity for government to implement infrastructure that works.

Mashile says Mboweni also needs to pay more attention on state enterprises especially Eskom which is currently hindering work for manufacturing companies.

Meanwhile another economist, Dawie Roodt, says Mboweni has to deal with a tough economic climate when he delivers the national budget today.

The national debt is set to increase to more than a staggering four-trillion-rand, or 67-point-five-percent of gross domestic product, by 2022/2023.

According to Roodt, Mboweni will have no option but to increase taxes.
