Calls for GBV to receive as much attention as covid-19

The Centre for the Study of Violence and Reconciliation wants President, Cyril Ramaphosa, to deal with the scourge of gender-based violence the same way as he handled the Covid-19 pandemic.
This follows the sharp rise in femicide and gender violence towards women and children since lockdown level three.
In the latest incident, a 42-year-old woman’s body was found with stab wounds in an outside room in Tshwane.
Police know the name of the man last seen with the victim and have urged him to come forward.
Meanwhile, presiding officers of Parliament say bold and resolute action, rather than outrage is what the country needs to tackle femicide and gender-based violence.
Parliamentary spokesperson, Moloto Mothapo, says the presiding officers want the wheels of justice to turn and swiftly bring the alleged perpetrators to book.
