The South African Medical Association (SAMA) has reiterated its call for the government to work towards allowing general practitioners to administer Covid-19 vaccines.

Currently, the public can only receive jabs and booster shots from a designated public or private vaccination site.

According to SAMA’s findings, the current vaccination rates are not where they are supposed to be.

The association’s Angelique Coetzee says allowing general practitioners to administer vaccines will help to fast-track the uptake of jabs.

The call comes comes as the country has seen a total of 78 888 Covid-19 vaccines administered in the past 24 hours.

South Africa has recorded one-thousand-332 new cases anounced this morning with the majority being from Gauteng, followed by the Western Cape and Kwa-Zulu Natal.

A further 88 Covid-19 related deaths have been recorded.
