The Treatment Action Campaign says educating the public about the importance and benefits of being vaccinated, especially during this time of COVID-19 will help quell fears of the unknown and counter fake news.
The TAC’s comment follows a range of reports on social media platforms as well as websites encouraging people against being vaccinated for COVID-19.
The organisation’s chairperson Sibongile Tshabalala says campaigns need to be rolled, educating the public including healthcare workers about the vaccine expected to arrive in the country next Monday.
1 million doses of the COVD-19 vaccine are expected to arrive in the country for the first phase of the vaccination drine.
Another batch is expected later in the year.
Tshabalala says fake news is a dander to society.
