Calls mount for an investigation into IPID’s actions

An exposé revealing how the Independent Police Investigative Directorate was able to completed 308 investigations in a single day has raised eyebrows that the cases were prematurely closed to meet their case competition targets.
Leaked memos, reports and correspondence contain whistle-blower allegations that police brutality cases were prematurely completed or closed at the police watchdog.
Viewfinder’s debut investigation exposes how under funding, state capture and statistical manipulation at the directorate has failed victims and helped violent criminals in the police service to escape accountability.
Police union Popcru’s, Richard Mamabolo, says if this is true, then there is a serious problem of corruption in the unit.
