Police Minister Bheki Cele says he’s concerned that he is accused of interfering with Police Commissioner, Khehla Sitole’s, decision to suspend police officials who allegedly attempted to fraudulently procure PPE’s.
Cele has been addressing parliamentary members of the Portfolio Committee on Police.
The EFF has opened a criminal case against Cele for defeating the ends of justice and interfering in the investigation.
Sitole had acted on an alert from the crime Intelligence about possible irregularities in the PPE procurement process at the organisation.
Cele says this is a new campaign to smear his name.
Addressing the issue of the shortage of resources, Cele adds that 50% of procurement challenges at the SAPS are caused by the supply chain management.
