Cele: Authorities must ensure liquor outlets remain closed

Police minister, Bheki Cele, says law enforcement authorities must ensure that all illegal liquor outlets are closed down in the country.
Cele has been addressing police officers in Durban.
This comes after stricter laws of Lock down measures that were announced by premier, Sihle Zikalala, to curb the high COVID-19 infection rate in eThekwini region.
Cele says illegal operators must be arrested and their trading equipment must be confiscated.
Cele also says the stringent regulation of alcohol during lockdown has led to a major decline in violent crimes in the country.
According to police stats, murder rate is down by 72% with 1,542 cases recorded in 2019 compared with 432 this year.
Cele says the ban on alcohol has a major role to play in the reduction of crime in South Africa.
