The Police ministry says it is encouraged by the thousands of submissions it’s received around the proposed Firearms Control Amendment Bill of 2021.

The bill was gazetted for comments last Friday and over 17 000 written submissions have been received.

The proposed amendments have been met with criticism from some sectors as it seeks to take away the right to own a firearm for self-defence.

Police ministry spokesperson, Lirandzo Themba, says minister Bheki Cele is pleased with the response.
