Police minister Bheki Cele says he’s concerned that foreign nationals are more involved in crime activities in the country.

On Tuesday, police seized a massive cocaine haul at the port of Saldanha Bay estimated at R583 million.

They found 973 blocks of compressed cocaine in three compartments of a fishing vessel.

Ten suspects were arrested during an operation conducted by the organised crime narcotics unit detectives, and were charged with dealing in drugs and are expected to appear in court soon.

Answering questions in the National Assembly on community safety, Cele says they are working with metro police officers to deal with the challenge.

In some of the biggest incidents, 155kg or R325 million worth of cocaine was reportedly discovered on a ship from Brazil in August 2011.

The previous month, 116kg (R250m) was discovered on a Maltese cargo ship.
