Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) minister, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, says the KwaZulu-Natal floods are the worst that the country has seen in living memory.
She has been briefing the nation on the declaration of a national state of disaster due to the severe weather events experienced last week.
The floods have left a trail of destruction, destroyed 4000 homes and left more than 40 000 people homeless.
Dlamini-Zuma says in 24 hours the province had between 300 and 400 millimetres of rain.
