Concerns continue regarding Eskom’s new CEO

Energy expert, Ted Blom, says Eskom’s new CEO, Andre De Ruyter, is going to be the man who helps unbundle the power utility and not fix it.
He points out that one of the requirements set out by Public Enterprises Minister, Pravin Gordhan, had included that the applicant needed to be an engineer, something the new CEO definitely isn’t.
Blom says the fact that De Ruyter has limited energy experience is a concern given the state of Eskom.

But the South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry welcomed De Ruyter’s appointment, saying that the power utility poses the biggest risk to South Africa’s economy and every effort should be made to fix its problems.
Sacci says whilst the decision signals a good intent by the Eskom board, South Africans should not delude themselves into believing that the mammoth task facing Eskom can be handled by one man.
