The Independ Electoral Commission(IEC) has recorded the lowest voter turn-out in the history of municipal elections, with figures showing the Northern Cape had the highest percentage at 28.37, followed by the Western Cape.
The Free State stood at 27.37% while Gauteng only recorded 27.17 voters attending the polls.
KwaZulu-Natal received only 27-percent of their registered voters.
The IEC says the final voter turnout will be announced at a later stage.
However, the commission’s Glen Mashinini says community protests in various provinces also affected voter turnout, especially in KZN, the Eastern Cape, Limpopo and the Northern Cape.
