Congress of South African Trade Unions’s  first deputy president, Mike Shingange, says the rising cost of living is putting severe financial pressure on the working class and the unemployed.

Shingange has been addressing a planned National Shutdown in Pretoria.

Unions, labour federations and left-leaning organisations from around South Africa are in protest against load shedding, wage suppression and the rising cost of living.

However, Government has implemented the ‘No work, No Pay’ rule for workers participating in today’s shutdown.

Shingange says it is the responsibility of both government and the private sector to seek relief for South Africans.
