COVID-19 Impacts Negatively on KZN Tourism this Festive Season

KwaZulu-Natal Premier Sihle Zikalala says a 62% drop in domestic tourism is predicted in the province this year.

Zikalala gave this breakdown of the projections during a briefing on the update on the impact of the second wave of COVID-19 in KZN.

This after it was revealed that only 2.3-million trips were made this year compared to 6.2-million trips last year.

A survey was conducted on 144 accommodation establishments across the province to establish the impact of the announcements relating to the Covid-19 pandemic on the tourism and hospitality sectors.

Zikalala says 59-percent of establishments reported cancellations for the festive season period.
