Basic education Minister Angie Motshekga says she’s concerned that more than 1100 educators have succumbed to COVID 19 in the country.
Motshekga had been briefing media in Pretoria on the government’s readiness for the reopening of schools.
Schools are expected to reopen today after the department announced last month that it would delay the reopening from January 27 to the 15th of February.
The delay was due to the country grappling with the second wave of COVID-19 as well as a stronger and deadlier variant of the disease.

Meanwhile teachers Unions have raised mixed emotions on the reopening of schools in the country.
South African Democratic Teachers Union (SADTU) KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Secretary, Nomarashiya Caluza, says they welcome the reopening of schools.
