Teacher unions in KwaZulu-Natal say they will carefully monitor the vaccination rollout programme in schools.
Basic Education Minister, Angie Motshekga, announced that teachers and staff in schools will start receiving their COVID-19 jabs from Wednesday, in a two-week push to administer 582 000 doses of the Johnson & Johnson (J&J) vaccine.
The second phase is extended to teachers, cleaners, food handlers and other school staff members who have been categorised as essential workers and prioritised for jabs.
The country has received 300 000 J&J doses … for those working in the education sector, while more doses are expected this week.
South African Democtratic Teachers Union (SADTU) provincial Secretary, Nomarashiya Caluza, says they have met with the basic education department to discuss the plan.
