The Democratic Alliance (DA) says South Africa can still hold free, fair and safe elections in October.
The comment follows a decision by the IEC to postpone the voter registration weekend by two weeks, in the light of the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic currently sweeping the country.
Registration was scheduled for the 17th and 18th of this month.
The party says the delay in the voter registration weekend must be factored into the processes still required to hold the local government elections on the 27th of October this year.
DA’s Siviwe Gwarube says the local government elections are still possible.
