DA Leader John Steenhuisen says no one has been more central to the deployment of party loyalists to positions in the state over the past decade than President Cyril Ramaphosa.

This was Steenhuisen’s speech, delivering the DA’s “True State of the Nation Address” on Monday morning.

He says Cadre deployment has produced a broken state of delivering on the most basic of its obligations to the people.

“He (Ramaphosa) headed up the ANC’s Cadre Deployment Committee from 2014 to 2018, when he took over presidency from Jacob Zuma. During this time some of the very worst appointments were made to our SOEs and public service, and corruption skyrocketed,” says Steenhuisen.

Speaking on economic recovery, Steenhuisen says the entire economy needs to be reopened and then start with a programme of aggressive economic reform.

He adds that this is where Ramaphosa and Finance Minister, Tito Mboweni, must make a big choice between the unity of their party (ANC) and the progress of South Africa.
