The Democratic Alliance (DA) caucus in AbaQulusi local municipality has distanced itself from comments made by the Municipal Speaker Micheal Khumalo regarding hiring processes.
This follows a video that has been circulating on social media where during a funeral service of late IFP Councillor Phaphama Mbatha, Khumalo alluded that he would speak to the Municipal Manager to hire one of Mbatha’s family members by axing an African National Congress affiliated municipal employee.
In the same video, Khumalo says DA Councillor Swelakhe Shelembe, with whom they are in a coalition would support this move.
Shelembe says the DA advocate for fair and equal opportunities for all regardless of gender, religion, or political affiliation.
