Nurses organisation, DENOSA, says the COVID-19 pandemic has shown how important it is for the country to go on with its National Health Insurance plan.

Denosa President, Simon Hlungwani, has shared these sentiments as the organisation commemorates World’s Nurses day.

He says the implementation of NHI will not only assist the public and the poor but will also assist health workers who continue to be exposed everyday to all sorts of illnesses.

Hlungwani elaborates,

On the role of nurses, Hlungwane says it is painful to celebrate this day when the world is fighting a pandemic and nurses around the globe don’t feel valued by their respective governments.

Hlungwani says everyday nurses leave their homes to go to work, putting their lives at risk.

He further says nurses have worked under extremely difficult circumstances especially in the past year and a half due to the fight against COVID-19.

The union has further called for the employment of more qualified nurses.

Hlungwani says in some public health facilities service is slow because of staff shortages, adding that this is all happening while thousands of young nurses are sitting at home unemployed.
