Desiree Ellis on Banyana needing the resistance of top quality opposition in preparing for World Cup

Banyana Banyana coach Desiree Ellis says her team needs the resistance that’s provided by top quality opposition, as they prepare for the FIFA Women’s World Cup in July & August. Banyana Banyana will take on Serbia in an International friendly on 10 April 2023 as their preparations continue for the global showpiece.

Desiree Ellis announced a 32-player preliminary squad earlier on this month for the training camp ahead of this international friendly match, and is expected to announce her final squad on Friday, 31 March 2023. The team will carry the moment from their Turkish Women’s Cup success after winning their group on goal difference.

South Africa will be in group G at the FIFA Women’s World cup alongside Argentina, Italy and Sweeden. Coach Desiree Ellis believes that her team needs the resistance offered by tough opponents to prepare for the world cup.
