The Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) says it has noted comments regarding the status of diplomatic relations between South Africa and Israel.

President Cyril Ramaphosa accepted a letter of Credence of the new Israeli Ambassador to South Africa this week.

Last year the department criticised the African Union’s decision to grant Israel an official observer status.

The government also withdrew its support of Miss SA Lalela Mswane’s participation in the Miss Universe pageant held in Israel.

Department Spokesperson, Clayson Monyela says South Africa currently does not have an ambassador in Israel.
