Former Social Development minister Bathabile Dlamini faces prosecution following statements to the Constitutional Court.
The Black Sash Trust and the Centre for Applied Legal Studies says the summons relates to her testimony during an inquiry into her role in the social grants crisis several years ago.
Judge Bernard Ngoepe found that the former minister’s conduct was negligent and reckless, thus ordering her to pay a portion of the costs of litigation.
Esley Philander of Black Sash says Dlamini is due in the Johannesburg Regional Court on 21 September for perjury.
