ANC President, Cyril Ramaphosa, says the party’s Deputy Secretary-General (DSG), Jessie Duarte will assume the duties of the Secretary General’s (SG) office.
This follows the suspension of party SG, Ace Magashule, during the implementation of the Step Aside resolution, last week.
Ramaphosa has been giving an address on the outcomes of the NEC meeting held over the weekend and concluded today, Monday.
Magashule is currently facing corruption charges linked to the R255-million asbestos tender, during his tenure as Free State Premier.
Ramaphosa has also weighed in on the ongoing attacks directed to Duarte.

Following the SG’s letter of suspension to the party President, Ramaphosa says Magashule had no authourity nor mandate from any structure of the movement to do this.
“The NEC agreed that such conduct was completely unacceptable and a flagrant violation of the rules, norms and values of the ANC. The NEC furthermore instructed the Officials to advise the Secretary General to apologise publicly to ANC structures and members within a set time frame. If he fails to do so, the ANC will institute disciplinary procedures in accordance with the ANC Constitution,” says Ramaphosa.
Ramaphosa says during the step-aside period a public representative may not occupy any executive office or other position of responsibility in the legislature.
He adds that during this period, members affected will be entitled to remuneration and other benefits as per labour relations policies.
