Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube says a number of the schools they have paid visits to are progressing well, while many are facing the challenge of a decreasing number of learners.

She is leading the provincial back-to-school monitoring programme to assess the progress since the start of the 2023 academic calendar.

Premier Dube-Ncube’s visit focused on rural and township schools in Umbumbulu and Folweni to assess the admission and enrolment capacity, availability of teaching material as well as the condition of school infrastructure.

She says if schools continue to lose a high number of learners and receive an even smaller number of enrolments, may lead to those schools closing.
