KZN MEC for Transport and Human Settlements, Siboniso Duma, has committed to speeding up the transition of cargo from road to rail.
He says he remains concerned about the high number of truck accidents along the N3 and N2, adding that this is a clear indication of the urgency of revitalising the rail networks.
Duma has been speaking ahead of the budget hearings convened by the Portfolio Committee on Transport at the provincial legislature.
This comes as there have been major delays on the N3 this morning following multiple accidents, some involving trucks, causing traffic to back up for kilometres.
