The Durban Chamber of Commerce and Industry says the instability brought by Eskom’s load-shedding will have dire consequences on the already ailing economy.
The Chamber’s President Nigel Ward says the recent unrest in KZN caused most sectors that contribute to the economy to go out of business, with many other struggling to get back on their feet.
Rolling blackouts have become a norm from recent weeks with stages going as high as stage 4.
Eskom’s leadership has admitted that most of the company’s problems come from lack of skills and deteriorating infrastructures
Ward says these power blackouts have come at a time when businesses in Durban are desperately trying to revive themselves.
He says the long term outcome will be unemployment.
