Durban’s Super giants (DSG) will be aiming for a second win in their Betway SA 20 campaign when they welcome the Joburg’s Super Kings to the Hollywoodbets Kingsmead stadium in Durban on Tuesday. DSG will be returning home where they escaped from the jaws of defeat to record a hard-fought 2-runs victory over the Pretoria Capitals in their tournament opener. The Durban outfit couldn’t build on that win after rain caused their second match to be abandoned against the same opponent, at the Wanderers stadium.

Super giants, who were the losing finalists in season two of the competition, performed a miracle bowling performance to beat the Pretoria Capitals by two runs in their opener. A superb batting performance saw them set the visitors a huge target of 210 for victory, only for openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Will Jacks to manufacture 154 runs for the first wicket in 12.3 overs, to put the visitors in complete control of the match.

The Capitals were only able to add 53 more runs after that, at the loss of six wickets as DSG’s brilliant bowling attack, led by Keshav Maharaj ensured an unlikely victory for the home team. All-rounder Wiaan Mulder, who struck a brilliant 45 runs off 19 balls with the bat, believes the manner in which they got the win sums up what their team is all about.

“I think a win like this is massive, if you ever gonna qualify for the play offs or even try to get into the play offs you need games like this to go your way,” said Mulder.

“To win a game like this sums up what team is about, we’ve got so many experienced players. Having someone like Kane (Williamson), Naveen (ul-Haq), Noor (Ahmad), guys who play in leagues all over the world in our team just kinda shows the composure, firstly, and secondly the understanding of ways to win.”

A tough assignment awaits the Durbanites who will face a Joburg Super Kings side that won their only match of the tournament so far, a 6 runs (DLS method) win over MI Cape Town at the Wanderers last weekend.
