eThekwini Mayor Cyril Xaba has emphasised the urgent need for proactive disaster management. The recent rains in the municipality claimed the lives of 16 people and caused extensive damage to 1,452 private properties.
Lamontville, KwaMakhutha, Adams Mission, Isiphingo, Pinetown, and Inanda were the worst-hit areas.
Xaba stated that they will be investing more resources to assist the metro in becoming more proactive in managing flood disasters.
